Silisyum karbür (SiC) potalar, özellikle yüksek sıcaklık ve reaktif ortamlarda grafit, kil-grafit veya kuvars gibi geleneksel pota malzemelerine kıyasla çeşitli avantajlar sunar.  Silisyum karbür potaların kullanılmasının temel faydaları şunlardır :

1. Yüksek Isıl İletkenlik

  • SiC mükemmel ısı iletkenliğine (≈120 W/m·K) sahip olup, hızlı ve homojen ısıtma sağlar.

  • Alüminyum veya kuvars gibi malzemelere kıyasla termal stresi ve çatlamayı azaltır.

2. Olağanüstü Termal Şok Direnci

  • SiC, çatlama olmaksızın hızlı sıcaklık değişimlerine dayanabildiğinden, ani ısıtma veya soğutma gerektiren prosesler için idealdir.

3. Yüksek Sıcaklık Kararlılığı

  • 1600°C’ye kadar   (inert/indirgeyici atmosferlerde) ve  1400°C’ye kadar  oksitleyici koşullarda etkili bir şekilde çalışır.

  • Grafitten (600°C’nin üzerinde oksitlenir) ve alüminadan (yüksek sıcaklıklarda yumuşar) daha iyi performans gösterir.

4. Üstün Kimyasal Direnç

  • Erimiş metallerin (Al, Cu, Zn), tuzların ve cürufların korozyonuna karşı dayanıklıdır.

  • Alüminyum veya silikon gibi reaktif metallere maruz kaldığında grafitten daha dayanıklıdır.

5. Mekanik Güç ve Dayanıklılık

  • Yüksek sertlik (~9,5 Mohs) ve basınç dayanımı aşınma ve deformasyonu azaltır.
